After considerable conversation and data sharing with the newspaper’s environmental reporting team, the Guardian has published coverage of the Protected Planet’s research. While focusing on the United Kingdom’s status of hosting the largest number of fossil fuel extraction sites in the world, editor Damian Carrington quoted project co-lead Alice McGown “every single one of these sites is a sign of hypocrisy, saying on one hand that this area is worthy of protection and then on the other hand, bringing fossil fuel extraction into those same areas”
